NORTHLEECH, (Gloucestershire) 68 cm. 80 mm. from London, is a p. 9 m. in com. with the r. Leche and the Roman fosse way running through it. The manor bel. formerly to the abbey at Glocester; but lately to Sir Ralph Dutton. Here are several almshs. and a free grammar-school; the latter established by Hugh Westwold, Esq; who endowed it with the impropriation of Chedworth, worth 80 l. a year; but it is said was afterwards so reduced, that he desired to be the schoolmaster, but was denied by the trustees. By a decree of chancery, in the R. of James I. the sc. was settled on Queen's-Coll. Oxford. Its Mt. is W. and Fair June 29. The T. is governed by a bailiff and 2 constables.
