OTTERBURN, (Northumberland) near Ellesdon, where is now a seat of Mr. Douglas, was the field of the battle bet. the English and the Scots in 1388, wherein Hen. Percy, called Hotspur, was taken prisoner, and Douglas, the Scots general, was killed. On this battle was founded the delightful old ballad of Chevy-chace, the village being situated by the r. Rhead, on the S. side of the Cheviot-Hills.
