PORTSEY-ISLAND, (Hampshire) in a creek of the Channel, at the mouth of which stands Portsmouth, is about 14 m. in com. and at high tide surrounded with sea-water, of which they make salt. It is joined to the continent by a bridge, which had a fort. K. Edgar's wife gave this island to New-Minster in Winchester.
