Stanford- Rivers. It is said, the Danish K. Swayno erected a castle here. In the R. of Hen. III. this was the Lp. of a
family of the same name. In 1716 it was purchased of Arabella, the daughter of the D. of Norfolk, by Sir Edward Smith, Bt.
The late Tho. Luther had a seat here.
