SYLUM, (Kent) or SILHAM, in the p. of Rainham, was the ancient manor and seat of the Danets, St. Legers, Cheyneys, and
Bloers; and has a monument in its Ch. for one of the Danets, which is near 350 years old. The manor came by marriage, in
the R. of Hen. VIII. from the Bloers family to Sir John Tufton, the ancestor of the E. of Thanet.
