WITHAM-FRIARY, (Somerset) not far from Nony-Castle, had a nunnery built by Henry II. or III. imprecating the wrath of Almighty God, and his own curse, on the violator of this his pious donation; but after the Diss. came to the family of Hopton, and was the estate of the famous Ld. Hopton, so created by Charles I. It has since been the seat of Sir Charles Windham, now Earl of Egremont.
