WITHICOMB, (Devon) near Dartmore-Forest, was anciently the manor of the Clavels, but since Richard II. that of the Raleighs, and has therefore the name of Withicomb-Raleigh. In the 14th year of Charles I. a violent thunder-storm happened here, when a ball of fire fell into the Ch. while the people were at divine service, by which 3 were killed, and 62 wounded, all the pews and seats were overturned, and as much damage done as amounted to 300 l.
