ADDERBURY (EAST), a parish in the hundred of BLOXHAM, county of OXFORD, 2 miles (N. by E.) from Deddington, comprising the chapelries of Barford St. John, Bodicott, and Milton, and the township of West Adderbury, and containing 2277 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Oxford, rated in the king's books at £21. 4. 9., and in the patronage of the Warden and Fellows of New College, Oxford. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, exhibits various styles of architecture, and contains some interesting specimens of early sculpture. There is a place of worship forWesleyan Methodists. Here is a school, with an endowment of £20 per annum; and, in 1737, Lady Mary Bertie bequeathed a rent-charge of £10 for teaching ten poor children to read.
