ALCISTON, a parish in the hundred of ALCISTON, rape of PEVENSEY, county of SUSSEX, 4 miles (N.N.E.) from Seaford, containing 247 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, at present under sequestration, in the archdeaconry of Lewes, and diocese of Chichester, rated in the king's books at £6, endowed with £200 parliamentary grant, and in the patronage of the Dean and Chapter of Chichester. The church presents some remains of Norman architecture, with an admixture of the early English style. Fragments of various kinds of coffins have been found here.
