ALDFIELD, a chapelry in that part of the parish of RIPON which is in the lower division of the wapentake of CLARO, West riding of the county of YORK, 3 miles (W. by S.) from Ripon, containing 133 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, within the jurisdiction of the peculiar court of Ripoii, endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £600 royal bounty, and in the patronage of Mrs. Lawrence. This village is resorted to on account of its mineral springs, the water of which possesses a sulphureous impregnation: the neighbourhood abounds with beautiful and romantic scenery.
