ALDWINKLE (ST-PETER'S), a parish in the hundred of HUXLOE, county of NORTHAMPTON, 3 miles (N. by E.) from Thrapston, containing 166 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Northampton, and diocese of Peterborough, rated in the king's books at £11. 6. 3., and in the patronage of Lord Lilford. There is a place of worship for Particular Baptists. The river Nene, which is navigable to the North sea, and communicates with the Northampton canal, flows through this parish, on the border of which are the remains of a singular cruciform building, called Liveden, erected by the Tresham family, and richly decorated with sculpture, especially round the cornice, which exhibits a Roman Catholic legend and a variety of religious symbols. Dr. Thomas Fuller, author of " The History of the Worthies of England " and other learned works, was born in this parish.
