ALKERTON, a parish in the hundred of BLOXHAM, county of OXFORD, 6 miles (W. N. W.) from Banbury, containing 158 in-habitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Oxford, rated in the king's books at £ 6. 3. 9., and in the patronage of the Rev. J. C. Townsend. The church is dedicated to St. Michael. Thomas Lydiat, the learned mathematician and chronologer, was born here, in 1572.
