ALRESFORD (OLD), a parish in the hundred of FAWLEY, Fawley division of the county of SOUTHAMPTON, half of a mile (N.) from New Alresford, containing 445 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, with the perpetual curacy of Medsted annexed, in the peculiar jurisdiction of the Incumbent, rated in the king's books at £49. 12. 8., and in the patronage of the Bishop of Winchester. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. The river Itchen runs through this parish. Old Airesford is within the jurisdiction of the Cheyney Court held at Winchester every Thursday, for the recovery of debts to any amount. Admiral Lord Rodney occupied a mansion in the neighbourhood.
