ALVESDISTON, a parish in the hundred of CHALK,
county of WILTS, 7 miles (E. by N.) from Shaftesbury,
containing 224 inhabitants. The living is a
discharged vicarage, with that of Broad-Chalk consolidated,
united to the vicarage of Bower-Chalk, in the
archdeaconry and diocese of Salisbury. The church is
dedicated to St. Mary. .
