ARDLEIGH, a parish in the hundred of TENDRING,
county of ESSEX, 4 miles (N. E.) from Colchester, containing
1387 inhabitants. The living is a discharged
vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Colchester, and dio-i
cese of London, rated in. the king's books at £11.0.10.,
and in the patronage of the Crown. The church is
dedicated to St. Mary. There is a place of worship for
Wesleyan Methodists. In 1571, William Littlebury
bequeathed property, now producing £ 120 per annum,
for instructing four poor boys.
