ASHCOTT, a parish in the hundred of WHITLEY, county of SOMERSET, 5 miles (W. S. "W.) from Glastonbury, containing 712 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, annexed to the vicarage of Shapwick, in the archdeaconry of Wells, and diocese of Bath and Wells. The church is dedicated to All Saints. There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists. A fair for cattle is held on the 9th of January. In 1737, Richard Miles bequeathed a sum of money, since vested in land now producing £70 per annum, which is distributed among the poor of the parish.
