ASHFORDBY, or ASFORDBY, a parish in the eastern division of the hundred of GOSCOTE, county of LEICESTER, 3 miles (W.) from Melton-Mo wbray, containing 424 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Leicester, and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £15. 11. 8., and in the patronage of the Rev. Andrew Burnaby. The church is dedicated to All Saints. This place communicates with the Leicester and Melton-Mowbray Navigation by means of the river Wreak, over which here is a bridge. In 1769, Morris Cam bequeathed £100 towards the support of a school for poor children.
