BADSEY, a parish in the upper division of the
hundred of BLACKENHURST, county of WORCESTER, 2
miles (E. by S.) from Evesham, containing, with the
hamlet of Aldington, 421 inhabitants. The living is
a perpetual curacy, in the peculiar jurisdiction of the
Bishop of Worcester, rated in the king's books at
£5. 6. 8., and in the patronage of the Dean and Canons
of Christ Church, Oxford. The church is dedicated to
St. James. The navigable river Avon runs along the
border of the parish, and receives here a small brook,
which in its course turns several mills, including a silkmill.
There is a small endowed school for the instruction
of poor boys. Within the limits of the parish are
some mineral springs, but their properties are not
thoroughly known.
