BARKSTON, a parish in the soke of GRANTHAM, parts of KESTEVEN, county of LINCOLN, 3 miles (N.N.E.) from Grantham, containing 416 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, rated in the king's books at £13. 7. 6., and in the peculiar jurisdiction and patronage of the Prebendary of North Grantham in the Cathedral Church of Salisbury. The church is dedicated to St. Nicholas. There is a small endowment for instructing and apprenticing poor children, being part of the rent of some land given by Selina Towers, in 1718. An aimshouse for six poor people is endowed with £43 per annum.
