BARNACK, a parish in the liberty of PETERBOROUGH, county of NORTHAMPTON, 4 miles (N.) from Wansford, containing, with the hamlets of Pilsgate and Southorpe, 649 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Northampton, and diocese of Peterborough, rated in the king's books at £28. 10., and in the patronage of the Bishop of Peterborough. The church, dedicated to St. John the Baptist, is an ancient structure with a square tower, the lower part of which is Norman; other parts of the edifice exhibit several varieties of English architecture. There are extensive quarries of excellent building stone near the village.
