BARTON, a parish in the northern division of the, wapentake of RUSHCLIFFE, county of NOTTINGHAM, 6f miles (S. W. by S.) from Nottingham, containing 403 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Nottingham, and diocese of York, rated in the king's books at £19. 3. 9., and in the patronage of the Archbishop of York. The church is dedicated to St. George. The navigable river Trent runs along the border of the parish. There is an intrenchment on a hill near the village, which, from the coins found, is supposed to have been constructed by the Britons.
