BARTON (STEEPLE), a parish in the hundred of
WOOTTON, county of OXFORD, 4 miles (S. S. W.) from
Deddington, containing, with the hamlets of Middle
Barton and Sesswell-Barton, 404 inhabitants. The living
is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry and dioBAR
cese of Oxford, rated in the king's books at £7. 9. 4.,
and in the patronage of Mr. and Mrs. Mister. The
church is dedicated to St. Mary. There is a place of
worship for Wesleyan Methodists.
