BATH-FORD, a parish in the hundred of BATH-FORUM, county of SOMERSET, 3§ miles (E. N. E.) from Bath, containing 688 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, with that of Bathampton conso lidated, in the archdeaconry of Bath, and diocese of Bath and Wells, rated in the king's books at £8. 18., endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Dean and Chapter of Bristol. The church is dedicated to St. Swithin. The village is situated in a picturesque neighbourhood, on the banks of the Avon, which was anciently crossed by a ford. The parish is within the jurisdiction of the court of requests held at Bath every Monday, for the recovery of debts under £ 10. Here are vestiges of a Roman camp, and a tumulus; and, in 1691, a Roman hypocaust, with a Mosaic pavement, altar, urns containing coins, and other ancient relics, were discovered.
