BELSAY, a township in that part of the parish of BOLAM which is in the north-eastern division of TINDALE ward, county of NORTHUMBERLAND, 15 miles (N. W.) from Newcastle upon Tyne, containing 327 inhabitants. There are considerable remains of an ancient castle, occupying an elevated site, above which is a stone cross. Belsay Hall is a splendid edifice of Grecian architecture, but the entire design has not been completed.
