BENTLEY, a parish and liberty in the hundred of
BASINGSTOKE, Basingstoke division of the county of
SOUTHAMPTON, 4 miles (W. S.W.) from Farnham, containing
690 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual
curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Winchester,
endowed with £600 private benefaction, £400 royal
bounty, and £800 parliamentary grant. J. Andrews
and others were patrons in 1820. The church is dedicated
to St. Mary. Bentley is within the jurisdiction
of the Cheyney Court held at Winchester every Thursday,
for the recovery of debts to any amount.
