BETCHWORTH, a parish in the first division of the hundred of REIGATE, county of SURREY, 3 miles (W. by S,) from Reigate, containing 909 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Surrey, and diocese of Winchester, rated in the king's books at £7. 8, ll£./endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Dean and Canons of Windsor. The church is dedicated to St. Michael. A school is endowed with £20 per annum, and is further supported by subscription.
