BINFIELD, a parish in the hundred of COOKHAM, county of BERKS, 3 miles (N. E.) from Wokingham, containing 1057 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Berks, and diocese of Salisbury, rated in the king's books at £18. 17. 1., and in the patronage of the Crown. The church is dedicated to All Saints. A National school is endowed with about £23 per annum. Pope, the poet, in the early part of his life, resided with his father in this village, where he wrote his poem entitled " Windsor Forest." Traces of a large iritrenchment, called Caesar's Camp, supposed to have been occupied by Julius Caesar during his invasion of Britain, are still visible.
