BLOORE-in-TYRLEY, a township in that part ot the parish of DRAYTON-in-HALES which is in the northern division of the hundred of PIREHILL, county of STAFFORD, 2 miles (E.) from Drayton, containing 14 inhabitants. Blore heath is distinguished as the scene of a sanguinary battle fought in 1459, between the Lancastrians under the command of Lord Audley, ana the Yorkists under that of the Earl of Salisbury, in which the former were defeated: about two thousand four hundred persons of distinction were slain, among whom was Lord Audley; a wooden cross, resting upon a stone pedestal bearing an inscription commemorative of the event, marks the spot on which his lordship fell.
