BRADFIELD, a parish in the hundred of TENDRING, county of ESSEX, 2 miles (E. S. E.) from Manningtree, containing 822 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, united to the rectory of Mistley, in the"archdeaconry of Colchester, and diocese of don, rated in the king's books at £12. 13. 4., dowed with £200 royal bounty. The church is dedicated to St. Lawrence. There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists. The navigable river Stour flows along the northern part of this parish. A fair is held on the last Monday in July. Sir Harbottle Grimston Master of the Rolls tinder Charles II., and an eminent writer on the law, was born here; he died in 1683.
