BRANTHAM, a parish in the hundred of SAMFORD, county of SUFFOLK, 2 miles (N. by B.) from Manningtree, containing 358 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, With the perpetual curacy of East Bergholt annexed, in the archdeaconry of Suffolk, and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £25. 10., and in 'the patronage of J. Rowley, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Michael. The river Stour, which here branches off in two directions, is navigable on the southern side of the parish.
