BRIGHTSIDE-BIERLOW, a township in that part of the parish of SHEFFIELD which is in the northern division of the wapentake of STRAFFORTH-and-TICKHILL, West riding of the county of YORK, 3 miles (N, B.) from Sheffield, containing 6615 inhabitants. Here are large iron-works, and the manufacture of table knives, scythes, &c., is carried on extensively. A school at Grimesthorpe was established-about 1762, and rebuilt, with a dwelling-house for the master, in 1802; it is endowed with £ 15. 10. per annum, for which the master teaches twelve children.
