BRIMPTON, a parish in the hundred of FAIRCROSS, county of BERKS, 6 miles (E. by S.) from Newbury, containing 464 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Berks, and diocese of Salisbury, rated in the king's books at £7, and in the patronage of Mrs..Cove. The church is dedicated to St. Peter. At the period of the Norman survey there were two churches in the parish, and remains of an ancient ecclesiastical edifice are visible at a farm-house, about half a mile from the present church. The Knights Hospitallers appear to have had an establishment here IU the time of Henry HI.
