BRINGTON, a parish in the hundred of NOBOTTLE-GROVE, county of NORTHAMPTON, 7 miles (N.W. by W.) from Northampton, containing 874 inhabitants. The living is a'rectory, in the archdeaconry of Northampton, and diocese of Peterborough, rated in the king's books at £40, and in the patronage of Earl Spencer. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, contains some fine monuments to the memory of deceased members of the Spencer family, among which is that of Henry Spencer, first Earl of Sunderland, killed at the battle of Newburyj in 1644. There is a place of worship for Particular Baptists. Althorp, in this parish, which was formerly more populous, now contains only the noble mansion of Earl Spencer, to whom it gives the inferior title of viscount.
