BRIXTON, a parish in the liberty of WEST-MEDINA, Isle of Wight division of the county of SOUTHAMPTON, 6 miles (S.W. byW.) from Newport, containing 686 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the peculiar jurisdiction of the incumbent, rated in the king's books at £32. 3. 4., and in the patronage of the Bishop of Winchester. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. In 1814,; the Rev.'Noel Digby conveyed an estate in trust, for the establishment of a school for the education of twenty children, to be chosen from this parish and the parish of 'Mottiston: the income is £20 a year.
