BULKINGTON, a parish in the Kirby division of the hundred of KNIGHTLOW, county of WARWICK 4 miles" (S. E. by S.) from Nuneaton, comprising the hamlets of Barnacle, Bramcott, Marston-Jabbett, Ryton, and Weston, and containing 1679 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Coventry, and diocese of Lichfield and Coventry, rated in the king's books at £6. 10. If., and in the'patronage of the Crown. The church, dedicated to St. James, has lately received an addition of three hundred and fifty sittings, three hundred of which are free, the Incorporated Society for the enlargement of churches and chapels having granted £200 for that purpose. The manufacture of ribands has recently been introduced 5 and the Ashby de la Zouch canal crosses the north-western angle of the parish, in which there is a quarry of excellent freestone. A National school has been established, and is supported by subscription.
