BURGH, a parish in the hundred of CARLFORD, county of SUFFOLK, 3 miles (N.W.) from Woodbridge,' containing 250 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of Suffolk, and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £8. 3. 4., and in the patronage of the Trustees of the/late Miles Barnes, Esq. The church, dedicated to St. Botolph, is said to have been built from the ruins of an ancient castle, of which the vallum and other vestiges are still visible. A preceptory of the order of St. John of Jerusalem formerly existed here.
