BURPHAM, a parish in the hundred of POLING, rape of ARUNDEL, county of SUSSEX, 2 miles (N. E. by E.) from Arundel, containing 223 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Chichester, rated in the king's books at £7-12. 6., endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Dean and Chapter of Chichester. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, is principally of Norman architecture. The: river Arun bounds this parish on the west.
