BURTON (WEST), a parish in the North-clay division of the wapentake of BASSETLAW, county of NOTTINGHAM, 3 miles (S. S. W.) from Gainsborough, containing 3.7 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry of Nottingham, and diocese of York, endowed with £20 per annum private benefaction, and £600 royal bounty, and in the patronage of David Walters, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Helen. This parish is bounded on the east by the river Trent.
