BURTON-on-the-WOLDS, a township in the parish
of PRESTWOULD, eastern division of the hundred of
GOSCOTE, county of LEICESTER, 3 miles (E. N. E.) from
Loughborough, containing 416 inhabitants. The Wesleyan
Methodists have a meeting-house here. There is
a small endowment for teaching, clothing, and apprenticing
children, chiefly arising from benefactions by Miles
Newton, in 1757, and John Kirk.
