BUTLEIGH, a parish in the hundred of WHITLEY, county of SOMERSET, 4 miles (S. S.E.) from Glastonbtoy, containing, with Wootton-Butleigh, 809 inhabitants. The'living is a vicarage,-with the perpetual .curacy of Baltonsborough annexed, in the exempt jurisdiction of Glastonbury, which belongs to the Bishop ,of Bath and Wells, rated in the king's books at £12.'6, 8., and in the patronage of the Hon. and Rev. G. Neville Grenville. The church is: dedicated to St; Leonard. This parish abounds with blue lyas stone. Here is a chalybeate spring, but in 'disuse.
