CARLTON-CURLIEU, a parish in the hundred
of GARTREE, county of LEICESTER, 7§ miles (N.N.W.)
from Market-Harborough, containing, with the chapelry
of Illston on the Hill, 174 inhabitants. The living is
a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Leicester, and diocese,
of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £18. 15. 10.,
and in the patronage of Sir J. H. Palmer, Bart. The
church is dedicated to St, Mary. The ancient manorhouse
is curious, affording a specimen of the style of
building in Queen Elizabeth's time.
