CHARBOROUGH, a parish in the hundred of LOOSEBARROW, Shaston (East) division of the county of DORSET, 6J miles (S. S. E.) from Blandford-Forum. The population is returned with the parish of Morden. The living is a discharged rectory, annexed to the vicarage of Morden, in the archdeaconry of Dorset, and diocese of Bristol, rated in the king's books at £?. 3.6., and in the patronage of Richard Erie Drax, Esq. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, is now used only as the burial-place of the Drax family. Over the- door of a small arched building in the grounds of Charborough House is an inscription, dated 1686, commemorating the meeting of some patriotic individuals, who here concerted the plan of the Revolution, in 1688.
