CHARLES, a parish in the hundred of SHERWILL,
county of DEVON, 5 miles (N. N. W.) from South
Molton, containing 322 inhabitants. The living is a
rectory, in the archdeaconry of Barnstaple, and diocese
of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £9- 10., and in
the patronage of the Rev. John Blackmore. The church
is dedicated to St. John the Baptist.
