CHARLETON, a hamlet partly in the parish of NEWBOTTLE, and partly in that of KING'S-SUTTON, hundred of KING'S-SUTTON, county of NORTHAMPTON, 4 miles (W. by S.) from Brackley. The population is returned with Newbottle. On a neighbouring hill, called Rainsborough, is a double-trenched oval camp, about half a mile in circumference, with the inner rampart more elevated than the outer, having two entrances on the north and two on the south; urns, glass vessels, and other relics have been discovered here; and a little to the eastward, near a smaller intrenchment, a gold coin of Vespasian has been found.
