CHARLTON (NORTH), a township in the parish of ELLINGHAM, southern division of BAMBROUGH ward, county of NORTHUMBERLAND, 6 miles (N.byW.) from Alnwick, containing 230 inhabitants. A school erected by John Cay, Esq. has been endowed with £5 per annum by Lord Crewe's trustees, and yearly benefactions amounting to about £4 in addition.
