CHECKENDON, a parish in the hundred of LANGTREE, county of OXFORD, 6 miles (S. E.) from Wallingford, containing 295 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Oxford, rated in the king's books at £ 19. 9. 4., and in the patronage of the Master and Fellows of University College, Oxford. The church is dedicated to St. Peter and St. Paul. This parish is entitled to send two poor men to the almshouse, and four poor children to the school, established at Goring, under the will of Mr. H. Allnutt, in 1724} it has also the right of sending four children to the school at Woodcote, founded by Mrs. Newman.
