CHEDZOY, a parish in the northern division of the hundred of PETHERTON, county of SOMERSET, 2 miles (E. byN.) from Bridg-water, containing 4-72 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Taunton, and diocese of Bath and Wells, rated in the king's books at £38. 7. 11., and in the patronage of the Rev. Dr; Coney. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. Roman coins have frequently been discovered within this village 5 and, in 1701, some earthen urns and a fibula were dug up near the church. A slight shock of an earthquake was felt on January 4th, 1682.
