CHERITON, a parish in the hundred of FOLKESTONE, lathe of SHEPWAY, county of KENT, 2 miles (W. by N.) from Folkestone, containing, exclusively of the officers and men employed in the preventive service, 1121 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, with the vicarage of Newington united, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Canterbury, rated in the king's books at £ 16.12. 6., and in the patronage of J. D. Brockman, Esq. The church, dedicated to St Martin, is in the early style of English architecture.
