CHILTON-CANTILO, a parish forming a detached
portion of the hundred of HOUNDSBOROUGH-BERWICK-and-COKER,
locally in that of Horethorne, county of
SOMERSET, 3 miles (E.) from Ilchester, containing 140
inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the
archdeaconry of Wells, and diocese of Bath and Wells,
rated in the king's books at £9. 11. 5., and in the
patronage of Richard Messiter, Esq. The church is
dedicated to St. James.
