CLAYTON-le-DALE, a township in the parish of
BLACKBURN, lower division of the hundred of BLACKBURN,
county palatine of LANCASTER, 4 miles (N. by
W.) from Blackburn, containing 698 inhabitants. In
1744, Edward Bootle gave a school-house and-land,
the annual rental Of which is £9. 10., for the free
education of five boys in Latin and English.
